Selling and Owning Design

There is a lot of potential for good design to be in our everyday lives. I like a lot of things, but I don't see myself using them, just because they aren't what I'm used to, take this bed for example, it is really really neat, but it doesn't look like something I would sleep in, so I wouldn't buy it. Not to mention how impractical it is; it uses up so much room compared to the bed I currently have.

I really like the idea of this bookshelf bench thing, but I don't see myself using one.

What I am getting at is if I don't see myself using these things, yet they have such amazing design in them, how am I supposed to sell any of my design ideas to people unless they are exactly what is popular in today's life?
