St. Louis Paper Boys

I don't know what is going on in this photo, but it really grabbed my attention. Technically it is a good photo. The 4 paper boys on the left take up about 2/3 of the photo, and the upper class boy on the right takes up the last 1/3 of the photo. The lines of the building draw attention to the boy on the right because of their lines.
Mostly though, I like to think of the story behind all of these people. The boy on the right is looking at the rest like they are below him, however, they don't appear to care. These boys all have either a cigarette or a pipe in their mouth and look happier.
I am guessing that these boys are orphans. Based on their clothes they don't look rich, and if they are from a poor family I doubt their parents would let them smoke with the money they make.
I like the setting too. The rundown newspaper building, paint peeling off the door, but the signs outside looking quite new. The building next door having tobacco signs on it adds to the feeling of the era.
If you look closely, you should be able to see that the roof of the newspaper building looks to be canvas, held on by nails at the facia of the building.
I think this photo speaks quite well about this era.
